Continuing to confound Hollywood, Fireproof placed No. 13 at the weekend box office while earning an estimated $1.75 million from 887 theaters, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. The surprise hit drama, which stars Kirk Cameron as a firefighter who pursues God to save his marriage, has made $26.1 million since it debuted at No. 4 the weekend of Sept. 26 with $6.8 million total receipts in just 839 theaters nationwide. "The movie is still playing in 80% of the theaters where it opened on Sept. 26," said the Web site for Fireproof, which had a modest $500,000 budget. A marriage book written by the film's co-producing brothers Stephen and Alex Kendrick, The Love Dare (B&H Books/B&H Publishing Group)—which was No. 2 on The New York Times Paperback Advice best-seller list the week of Oct. 31—has 600,000 copies in print, and was in its fifth printing. A focal point of Fireproof, The Love Dare sat atop the Times Paperback Advice best-seller list the weeks of Oct. 10-24. The Love Dare has also been ranked in the top 10 best-seller lists of CBA and the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Meanwhile, the Fireproof novelization by Eric Wilson and the Kendricks (Thomas Nelson) has more than 80,000 copies in print, and was in its eighth printing, company officials said. |
