Sales of religious books decreased 11.8% for the month of September, according to the Association of American Publishers. The month's sales were $76.8 million, and the category's sales were down 8.9% for the year. Sales of religious books also decreased 10.8% for the month of August.

The Adult Hardcover category was down by 29.8% in September with sales of $173.3 million, while year-to-date sales decreased by 9.2%. Adult Paperback sales decreased 8.6% for the month, posting $134.7 million in sales, and sales were down by 6.9% for the year.

The Children's/Young Adult Hardcover category saw an increase of 41.9% for the month, with sales of $119.8 million, but its sales for year-to-date significantly dropped, by 26.3%. The Paperback category for the same age was down 19.1% with sales totaling $51.5 million, although sales were up by 8.8%.

Audiobook sales decreased 12.3% in September, with sales totaling $18.7 million; sales for the year were down by 24.7%. However, E-book sales continued to rise in September, seeing a 77.8% increase for the month to $5.1 million and posting an increase of 55.2% for the year.
