Following the successful launch of VeggieTales: Sumo of the Opera, Larry the Cucumber takes center ring again in the new VeggieTales Special Edition: Sumo Of The Opera Magazine. Releasing this week through Word Distribution, 375,000 copies of the full-color, 24-page magazine already have been ordered by retailers. The magazine also is available through 1,200 churches nationwide, and includes a coupon for Sumo. The free magazine includes games for children, pages for coloring, puzzles and a poster. "We have done newsletters, but never anything at this level before," said Leslie Ferrell, vice president of sales for Big Idea. "This is a real magazine. It's designed to not only be entertaining for kids, but for retailers to use as a marketing tool from their store. Retailers are encouraged to drop them off at their local schools, daycares, churches, etc., with the coupon in the magazine driving customers back to retail." The first project to be launched from Big Idea's new Tennessee headquarters, VeggieTales: Sumo of the Opera has scanned more than 63,000 units in 15 days in the CBA market alone and tops the SoundScan Top Children's Videos chart for the third consecutive week.
