The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

is scheduled for release on DVD April 8 from Sony Pictures and is being distributed to Christian retail by Provident-Integrity.

Rated PG for several scenes involving gunfire and peril as well as mild language, the nearly two-hour film tells the story set during World War II regarding the legend of the Loch Ness Monster with a young boy named Angus (Alex Etel) discovering a large egg along the shores of the famous Scottish lake where "Nessie" is said to live.

Although not overtly Christian in its message, Water Horse was called a family-friendly movie that promoted redeeming values by some Christian film critics.

Directed by Jay Russell (My Dog Skip, Tuck Everlasting), the film stars Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie, Breaking the Waves), Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line), David Morrissey (The Reaping) and Brian Cox (Running With Scissors).

The two-disc special edition version comes in a widescreen format, featuring deleted scenes and featurettes.
