Author and child development expert Mary Manz Simon yesterday led a workshop instructing retailers on trends valuable in reaching kids effectively with Christian product.

Manz Simon was pleased to see that "a developmental approach is being reflected in many CBA products."

Particular product was highlighted by special guests such as Mike Nawrocki, co-creator of VeggieTales and voice of Larry the Cucumber, and Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman as well as Mary Beth's brother Jim Chapman, illustrator of their new book on adoption.

Tween spending is now up to $19.1 billion a year, so retailers should pay special attention to that demographic, Manz Simon said. She also noted that "shared decision-making" among parents and children has become the norm in today's families.
