As award-winning retailer Chuck Wallington prepares to bring a message of encouragement to fellow Christian storeowners tonight, he has been spotlighted for making an impact in his South Carolina hometown community. The president of Spartanburg's Christian Supply, due to speak at the CBA Member Dinner & Meeting tonight, has made headlines in the town's Herald-Journal for his store's annual discount book program. For the last nine years, the store has featured a title chosen for its potential for spiritually impacting the community, in its Winter Book promotion. The selected title is being offered for half price, $10.99, through Feb. 10-and will even be given away free if someone can't afford that. “It's our investment in the community,” Wallington told the newspaper. “What we look for is a book that will have a lot of feel and impact a lot of people's lives.” This year's selection is Beth Moore's Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk About God's Deliverance (Integrity Publishers), the first time that a book by a female author has been chosen for the promotion. For men who might be leery of reading a book by a woman, Wallington had stickers made that read “Real Men Read Beth,” the newspaper reported. Wallington told the Herald-Journal that the book is for anyone “struggling with some kind of sin. That's why the book has such universal appeal. It's a very practical book. Anybody could read this book and get something out of it.” Christian Supply has won several CBA awards for retail excellence and innovation. Wallington is due to deliver an address intended to “re-energize passion for retail ministry,” organizers said. |
