The CBA-led campaign to see 100,000 Bibles sent to American military personnel saw the special-edition Operation Worship Bible NLT (Tyndale House Publishers) has been overwhelmingly successful, according to CBA President Bill Anderson.

Anderson told the approximately 300 people at the CBA Member Breakfast yesterday that the goal to sell 100,000 Bibles in 100 days was accomplished in 40 days. Anderson added that a new goal would be to sell 500,000 Bibles.

CBA, Operation Worship, K-LOVE Radio Network and Tyndale House joined forces to provide free copies of the Operation Worship Bible to U.S. troops stationed around the world. Launched June 1, the initiative seeks to have customers of Christian retailers buy an Operation Worship Bible for $4.99 and write a personal message to a member of the military, organizers said.

Blaine Smith, associate publisher for Tyndale House, told Christian Retailing that approximately 1,000 attendees of the International Christian Retail Show have signed copies of the special Bibles to send to troops.

"The response has been very, very positive," said Smith, whose son is in the Marines and is stationed overseas. "The retailers are really behind this. This has energized the stores; they have caught the vision. One store in Houston sold 6,500 Bibles to one church. It's an opportunity for stores to connect to churches."

The Operation Worship Bible was ranked the third best-selling Bible for the month, according to the July Top 50 books list from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
