John Carter Cash’s story honors ‘beautiful bond’ of mother and child

John Carter Cash, son of music legends Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, sees his first children’s book, Momma Loves Her Little Son (978-1-416-95912-0), published next month. Little Simon Inspirations, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, is releasing the hardcover picture book for kids ages 4-8.

The story revolves around the loving words Cash’s mother spoke to him as a young child, telling a sweet love story about the relationship between mom and child.

“I steadfastly believe that there is no greater love than that between a mother and a child,” Cash said. “This book found its genesis in that enduring, true and beautiful bond. When I was young, my mother said to me, ‘Momma loves her little son.’ Now, this tender endearment holds a firm meaning within my life, inside my spirit. It reminds me that in sharing love, it grows that much greater in our hearts.”

The only son of the two musicians, Cash is best-known for his producer roles for many artists, including both his parents. While Momma Loves Her Little Son is his first children’s book, he is the author of Anchored in Love, his mother’s biography, and the producer of the music CD of the same name.

The children’s book describes how a mom loves her child with a love that is beyond boundaries. Kids will find themselves traveling over mountaintops and skyscrapers and into forests as the story unfolds.

Illustrator Marc Burckhardt is a veteran artist and created the art for June Carter Cash’s album Wildwood Flower. He also made the portrait of Johnny Cash that was part of a GRAMMY-winning package design for the album The Legend of Johnny Cash.

Simon & Schuster will market the book to both the general and Christian markets, supported with an author video. Retailers can use the video to introduce customers to the book and author.
