Group, couples’ programs translated to meet need for Latino materials Church resource group Outreach Inc. is seeking to fan the flames of marriage renewal in Spanish-speaking congregations and communities with translations of materials for the hit movie Fireproof. The Vista, Calif.-based church communication and outreach tools provider released last month Spanish-language study and devotional programs created to build on the challenge presented in the film about a firefighter’s troubled marriage. Dubbed into Spanish, the PG-rated movie—produced by Sherwood Pictures—is included in the Fireproof paquete de iglesia ( Fireproof Church Movie Event Kit ) which gives the church a license to screen the film publicly for a year. The pack, which retails for $129, also includes a movie event-planning guide, movie clips and a trailer, and marketing materials. Additionally, the film kit includes a copy of Fireproof-protege tu matrimonio: paquete para el líder ( Fireproof Your Marriage: Leader’s Kit), available separately for $24.95 (978-0-978-71535-9). Outreach has also released Fireproof-protege tu matrimonio: guía del participante ( Fireproof Your Marriage: Participant’s Guide, 978-0-978-71536-6, $8.95) and Fireproof-protege tu matrimonio: paquete para la pareja ( Fireproof Your Marriage: Couple’s Kit) 978-0-982-37440-5, $29.95). The English-language kits were released in June 2008. Included only in the church kit is a copy of El desafío del amor ( The Love Dare, B&H International, $9.99), the translation of the 40-day devotional book written by directors Stephen and Alex Kendrick, which is featured in the movie’s storyline. The main character, played by Kirk Cameron, finds his marriage transformed as he seeks to be a channel of God’s love to his wife. With more than 1 million couples already having used the English-language study materials produced to support the film, there has been strong interest in Spanish editions. Work on the Spanish materials began last fall with the film’s release, surprising many in Hollywood by becoming the most successful independent movie of the year. “We just knew that marriage is a theme that is applicable to everybody, and we saw the demand right from the theatrical release,” said Outreach Films General Manager Marc Harper.
