iPad_mini_inHand_Wht_iOS6_PRINTDespite ‘blatant and aggressive disregard’ for antitrust laws, Apple its likely to receive lighter penalties than feared in its e-book case.

The latest news in the unfolding price-fixing case forecasts a slightly less dim situation for the tech giant than the draconian penalties the Department of Justice (DOJ) had initially suggested. U.S. District Judge Denise Cote’s final ruling is still expected to come down hard on Apple, whose reactions to the case are not doing the company any favors.

Five-time Dove Award-winning Female Vocalist of the Year Natalie Grant and gospel artist BeBe Winans performed yesterday during the "Let Freedom Ring" Commemoration and Call to Action at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The event commemorated the historic speech delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963. President Barack Obama delivered remarks, honoring King's call to "Let freedom ring" by ringing bells at 3 p.m. EDT—50 years to the minute after King delivered his address.

"What an incredible honor to stand in the heart of our nation and sing the name of Jesus," Grant wrote in a Facebook post.

Elsewhere, The City Harmonic, who earlier this year won the Juno Awards' Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year for I Have a Dream (It Feels Like Home) (Integrity Music/Provident Distribution), was spotlighted yesterday during the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's The National news program on the King speech anniversary.

"[King's] speech is obviously still relevant today, but I hope that in the future that it's not relevant at all, but that it's remembered for its historical importance" the band's Elias Dummer said.

Baker Book House series explores art 'in a Christian way' Print Email

In a departure from the typical Christian bookstore event, Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, Mich., is hosting a free series that focuses on art. "Art Talks: Lectures and Discussions on Art" is scheduled for the next five Thursdays, starting tonight.

"This series has a two-fold purpose, and our title reflects this," Baker Book House officials said in an eblast. "The first is simple enough: this is a series of talks about art. Christians have always had a complicated history with the arts. ... The second purpose and meaning of our title is more subtle. Not only do we talk about art, but art itself tries to speak to us. This series will allow space for Christians to view and interpret art together as we learn to hear what art is saying to us."

The series starts tonight with Lambert Zuidervaart in "Creating a Disturbance: Art, Ethics and Relational Autonomy. On Sept. 5, Michael Stevens and Rick Beerhorst are featured in "Painting from the Roots Up." On Sept. 12, Nicholas Wolterstorff, author of Justice in Love (Wm. B. Eerdmans), will host "The Chair: Reflections on Art, Craft, and Design."

William Romanowski, author of Eyes Wide Open (Brazos Press/Baker Publishing Group ), will lead a discussion on "Hollywood Films as Popular Art and Culture?" on Sept. 19. Calvin Seerveld, author of Voicing God's Psalms (Eerdmans), will host "Learning to Look at Art with Human, Biblical Discernment" on Sept. 26.

"Ranging from rigorous academic investigations to casual and meaningful dialogues, Art Talks offers content for all those engaged in thinking about and creating art in a Christian way," Baker Book House said. "Whether you are a seasoned aesthetician or you have never heard the word 'aesthetic' in your life, you will find much to enjoy."
