- Reflecting the sinking economy, sales of religious books decreased 9% in November, while all book categories were down 14.4% for the month, according to the Association of American Publishers.

- The month’s sales for religious books were $47.8 million, while the category’s sales were down 10.4% for the year. Sales of religious books also decreased 25.6%, 11.8% and 10.8% for the months of October, September and August, respectively.

The Adult Hardcover category was down by 13.9% in November with sales of $164.5 million, while year-to-date sales decreased by 13.3%. Adult Paperback sales decreased 13% for the month, posting $95.4 million in sales, but sales increased by 2.9% for the year.
- The Children’s/Young Adult Hardcover category saw an increase of 14.3% for the month, with sales of $72.9 million, but its year-to-date sales significantly dropped, by 20.6%. The Paperback category for the same age was down 18% with sales totaling $39 million, although sales for the year were up by 3.8%.

- Audiobook sales decreased 6.6% in November, with sales totaling $14.2 million; sales for the year were down by 21.6%. However, E-book sales continued to rise in November, seeing a 108.3% increase for the month to $5.1 million and posting an increase of 63.8% for the year.
