Zondervan has announced plans to publish a "green" edition of its best-selling The Beginner's Bible to mark the 20th anniversary of the children's title.
- The book-which has sold more than 6 million copies and inspired a line of titles-will release in carbon-neutral format next summer. "Because we sell many copies of The Beginner's Bible every year, this storybook Bible has the greatest, single impact of any of our titles on the environment," said Annette Bourland, senior vice president and publisher for Zonderkidz. "We felt that there was no better way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Beginner's Bible than by helping to protect the environment in new ways for future generations."

Available in 20 languages worldwide, The Beginner's Bible includes almost 100 Bible stories. Brand owner Mission City Press' (MCP) line has grown to include bilingual editions and lift-the-flap books. The original storybook was updated in 2005, based on educational research about the learning styles of young children. New stories were added and the artwork revised.

The updates brought the "characters and stories to life in a brand-new way," said MCP President Sandi Shelton.

A fixture on the sales charts, The Beginner's Bible won a Christian Retailing Retailers Choice Award in 2006 for best nonfiction children's title.
