Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) this week honored the writers and publishers of last year's most-performed Christian songs on U.S. radio and TV during its annual Christian Music Awards, held at the organization's headquarters in Nashville.

TobyMac, Steven Curtis Chapman, producer-songwriter Chris Stevens and singer-songwriter Jason Walker shared the Songwriter of the Year title. "Lose My Soul," recorded and co-written by TobyMac and Stevens, garnered Song of the Year honors. Additionally, Universal Music Publishing Group earned its third consecutive Publisher of the Year award.

During the April 20 event, BMI also recognized music executive Billy Ray Hearn, co-founder of Sparrow Records, which has launched the careers of Steven Curtis Chapman, CeCe and BeBe Winans, Switchfoot and Amy Grant.
