Plans have been announced for a new, collaborative winter trade show to be held in Atlanta, Jan. 11-13, 2011. The as-yet-unnamed event will bring together Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) and the Inspirational Value Book Show (IVBS), who earlier this year revealed the intent to merge their separate events, with a third partner--CBA. The involvement of the retailers trade group marks its return to the winter-event calendar. This comes after dropping its CBA Advance in the light of dwindling attendance in favor of a smaller conference that was itself scrapped in 2009. The new event--open to domestic and international stores--will be held at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel in Atlanta, just prior to the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market in the city, Jan. 12-19. IVBS moves from its previous venue in Nashville to join with CTAI. Jerry Bloom, president of Wholesale Christian Books, which owns IVBS, said: "Though we have had a successful run in Nashville, we believe most buyers will find it more efficient and convenient to join us in Atlanta. We are excited to co-produce this event with CBA and Christian Trade." Though Marketsquare International was created to provide a January buying opportunity for the international Christian trade, "just like domestic Christian buyers, internationals are looking for value," said CTAI President Jim Powell. "Bargain and distressed books can provide that value." CBA Executive Director Curtis Riskey said that the three-way initiative marks "a new milestone in unifying the industry for common benefit." The event would "attract different buyers, provide new opportunities, particularly in the bargain area, and allow retailers from all over the world to plan and buy for the coming year. We're also exploring expanding the bargain area beyond books." Marketsquare International will open with a banquet for international attendees Tuesday evening, Jan. 11. The exhibition floor for all shows will be open for business Jan. 12 and 13. The shows include training, meals and refreshments. |
