Best known for its charismatic books, Destiny Image Publishers has joined the ranks of those entering the growing market for inspirational movies.

The company's new Destiny Image Films (DIF) division last night premiered its debut film, A Christmas Snow, made in collaboration with the Narrative Television Network and Trost Moving Pictures.

The 111-minute family drama about when "the storm of the century brings the gift of a lifetime" stars Muse Watson (NCIS, Prison Break), Catherine Mary Stewart (Days of Our Lives, The Last Starfighter) and Anthony Tyler Quinn (Boy Meets World, Melrose Place). It was shot in Tulsa, Okla., on a $650,000 budget.

The film is to be screened at up to 2,000 churches across the country in a series of special previews starting in September, before its release on DVD in October. Distribution has already been set with Family and LifeWay Christian Stores, said Joel Nori, son of Destiny Image founder Don Nori and director of DIF.

There will be a simultaneous release of a novelization of the film by Jim Stovall, co-executive producer; an audio edition of the book; a music soundtrack; and a journal, Restored, which relates to a journal kept by one of the characters in the film.

"We have had a great response to the film. Everyone loves it," said Joel Nori. "The publishing world is changing, the way people prefer to access information. They don't just want to read, they want to be entertained. Movies are a new way to reach people."

Stovall is the author of The Ultimate Gift, made into a popular movie.
