Teen sailor Abby Sunderland has signed with Thomas Nelson to write a book telling how she set out to become the youngest person in history to circumnavigate the globe alone last year. To be co-written with Lynn Vincent—co-author of Sarah Palin's Going Rogue (HarperCollins)—Unsinkable: A Young Woman's Courageous Battle on the High Seas is to be released in April. Four months into her voyage, which drew worldwide media attention, Sunderland's boat was demasted and rolled by a rogue wave in the Indian Ocean in June. Her parents, Laurence and Marianne Sunderland, lost contact with her for a time, but the 16-year-old was rescued after spending two days at sea. Abby has "a powerful story of faith and perseverance," said Brian Hampton, Nelson's senior vice president and publisher. "I believe that while she may not have reached her destination, she certainly achieved her destiny." |
