Christian music's largest annual tour, the Winter Jam 2011 Tour Spectacular kicked off last weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn., Charleston, W.Va., and Charlotte, N.C.

The 47-city nationwide tour, which runs through April 3 ending in Peoria, Ill., features artists Chris Sligh, Francesca Battistelli, KJ-52, Kutless, NewSong, Red, the David Crowder Band and Newsboys, plus speaker Tony Nolan.

During the 16th annual tour, Chris August and Sidewalk Prophets will spotlight American Bible Society's Uncover the Word campaign, encouraging fans to take a closer look at the relevance of the Bible and apply it to their lives. From the stage, the artists will share a variety of custom Bible resources and videos.

In 2010, the tour broke its attendance record for the third year in a row, despite the current economic climate and a policy of not selling advance tickets—guests are required to pay $10 at the door.

Last year's tour played to more than 403,000 people—ranking No. 2 on Pollstar's 2010 Worldwide "Top 100 Tours" chart for the first quarter of 2010, according to organizers. Second to AC/DC, Winter Jam finished ahead of tours by such artists as John Mayer, Bon Jovi, Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
