STL Distribution North America (STLD) is unveiling a new service later this week it says will "change the landscape" of the Christian product industry. The wholesaler hosts an event to spotlight its new print-on-demand service at its Elizabethton, Tenn., headquarters, Wednesday, March 2. The three-way partnership of backlist and out-of-print titles with printer Dickinson Press and technology firm Snowfall Press—allowing same-day shipping—was described by STLD President Glenn Bailey as a "groundbreaking alliance (that) will change the landscape of Christian book publishing and distribution markets." The service gives retailers access to thousands of digitally stored titles available for immediate printing—one at a time, if desired. Orders received by 1 p.m. can be shipped the same day. STLD built a dedicated $1 million print facility at its distribution center in Elizabethton for the system, which was purchased and managed by Dickinson Press. Snowfall Press oversaw the build-out and integration of the system, which will enable automation from the uploading of files through to printing, binding and shipping.
