The number of Bibles sold at LifeWay Christian Stores has almost doubled since 2005, according to Thom Rainer, president of the chain's parent company, LifeWay Christian Resources (LCR).

Speaking during the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Phoenix on June 14, Rainer said that LifeWay has sold more than 10 million Bibles in the last five years, Baptist Press (BP) reported. He cited the Bible Place, a project within LifeWay stores to build upon the commitment to offer the Bible to customers.

Rainer added that more than 300,000 Bibles from LifeWay Christian Stores have been distributed to military personnel on duty in the past five years.

He also noted the success of the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB), which "continues to gain recognition and readership." Additionally, Rainer spotlighted the HCSB Study Bible (Holman Bible Publishers/B&H Publishing Group), recognized earlier this year as the Bible of the Year by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Released in 2010, the study Bible contains more than 15,000 study notes from more than 100 scholars.

Despite being in the midst of the worst economic times since the Great Depression, LCR "has been able to be financially stable and good stewards of that which God has entrusted to us," Rainer said, BP reported.
