Bookstore leaders and suppliers will take time out to laugh when they meet for business at Christian Retailing’s Retailing ReBoot West in California next week. Comedian Michael Jr. will be providing light relief with a special appearance at the two-day event being hosted by Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos. With television appearances including The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live, Michael Jr. has also featured in the “Thou Shalt Laugh” series sold in Christian stores. His Retailing ReBoot appearance Oct. 17 will precede the event’s author reception, which will feature more than 20 authors speaking about and signing their latest releases. Among those taking part will be Susan Meissner (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group) and Camy Tang (Zondervan). Educational sessions at Retailing ReBoot—for which registration is still open—will include presentations and discussions on issues including e-books and customer experience. Participants will include George Thomsen, CBA’s chairman of the board and general manager of Harvest Bookstore in Riverside, Calif., and Aurelio Barreto, gift director on the CBA board, and founder and CEO of C28 stores and Not of This World apparel. More than 30 suppliers will be represented on the exhibit floor, including Crossway, Not of This World, Kerusso, Tyndale House Publishers, DaySpring and Zondervan. The West Coast event is being held following the success of Retailing ReBoot in Orlando, Fla., in April. Rose Seeley, manager of Cottonwood Bookstore at Cottonwood Church, said that the Orlando event gave her “more practical information and ideas than I have ever got from any one show I have been to.” Store representatives registering for the event can bring a second attendee for free, while qualifying attendees will have accommodation and some travel costs reimbursed.
