Solo artist TobyMac and groups Casting Crowns and Third Day have been nominated for Contemporary Inspirational Music’s Favorite Artist honor in the 2011 American Music Awards (AMAs). Mainstream recording artists Nicki Minaj and Pitbull announced the nominations Oct. 11 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live. This is the second consecutive year that Casting Crowns and TobyMac have been nominated for the prizes’ sole category dedicated to Christian music, with last year’s award won by MercyMe. This is TobyMac’s third career nomination and Third Day’s fourth, winning in 2008 for Revelation. This is the sixth career AMA nomination for Casting Crowns, which won the award in 2007. Nominees in 18 categories from pop or rock to rap and hip-hop are determined from chart data, and fans will choose the winners in online voting at the Coca-Cola AMA website, amavote.com. Voting ends Friday, Nov. 11. Produced by Dick Clark Productions, the 39th annual AMAs will be held Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles and will air live on ABC (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT). |
