The popular music of Mandisa returned to ABC’s Good Morning America today as the program broadcast the world premiere of her new music video for the lead single off her new album, Overcomer (Sparrow Records/Capitol Christian Distribution). Mandisa performed the titular song live on the show last week to celebrate the album’s release. Now, the three-time GRAMMY nominee is also celebrating Overcomer hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Christian chart as well as No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album has held the top spot since its Aug. 27 release, and the title track is a No. 1 single. The music video for “Overcomer” features personal appearances from former U.S. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton and GMA host Robin Roberts, among others, using their successful struggles to overcome their difficult circumstances to illustrate the song’s message. “We chose each of them because when we thought of who has been an example of an overcomer in a very public battle, it is hard to imagine anyone more appropriate than the amazing people in my video,” Mandisa said. “I pray that sharing their inspirational stories throughout the video will leave people saying, ‘If they can do it, so can I!’ ” “I was really inspired by Mandisa’s song ‘Overcomer’ because its message is one of hope, perseverance and faith,” said Giffords, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head in 2011. “Like the song says, if we keep positive and ‘stay in the fight till the final round,’ we can overcome more than we ever dreamed possible.” |
