Woodlawn debuted in theaters to strong reviews and expected box office performance. Early receipts estimate that the football-and-faith movie from Pure Flix made $4.1 million in 1,553 theaters, reaching No. 9 at the domestic box office. The opening matched expectations for directors Andrew and Jon Erwin, whose last effort—Moms’ Night Out—debuted to similar numbers ($4.3 million on 1,044 screens). Moms' Night Out ultimately grossed $10.4 million. Woodlawn’s lower per-theater average on opening weekend ($2,577, compared to $4,129) suggests a short run for the inspirational sports film. However, that negative projection is tempered by a glowing “A+” CinemaScore, which generally indicates strong word-of-mouth. On critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Woodlawn has a 100 percent "Certified Fresh" score as of publication. |
