Dwight Baker, president of Baker Publishing Group, and his wife, Tamara, appear to have lost their Grand Rapids, Michigan, home in a fire Thursday night. Dan Baker, executive vice president at the company and brother to Dwight, reported everyone is "safe." But the home appears to be a total loss, according to Wes Brower, the company’s executive vice president of finance and operations. The Bakers were entertaining two dinner guests when they smelled smoke and found the fire had started in their garage, according to an MLIVE report. Baker said the fire likely started from a dish towel that had fallen on a candle earlier in the evening. He thought they had put out the fire and placed the towel in the garage. The couple had lived in the home for 18 years, MLIVE reported. |
