Saint Meinrad Archabbey, owner and operator of Abbey Press, is participating in a special way in the Holy Year of Mercy designated by Pope Francis. The jubilee year runs Dec. 8, 2015-Nov. 20, 2016. Along with another church in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis named as a pilgrimage site, the Archabbey Church of Our Lady of Einsiedeln at Saint Meinrad also has been honored as a pilgrimage site, and its doors have been designated as “holy doors” for the jubilee year. The doors were ceremonially opened Dec. 13. The opportunity to pass through the holy doors is open to any guest of Saint Meinrad, including customers visiting the Abbey Press trade showroom throughout the year or at the open house in August. Those who pass through the holy doors at one of the two pilgrimage churches, recite either the Apostles’ or Nicene Creed and pray for the pope. During the 20 days before or after passing through the doors, Catholics are required to be repentant of their sins and participate in the sacrament of penance, receive communion and prayerfully reflect on mercy. |
