Rick Warren's best-selling The Purpose-Driven Life (PDL) has been named Book of the Year for 2005 at the United Kingdom (U.K.) Christian Booksellers Convention (CBC).

PDL continues to be a publishing phenomenon, with more than 25 million copies sold worldwide. The book was released in October 2002 and has maintained a spot on The New York Times best-seller list for more than 160 weeks. The Purpose-Driven Life was also named the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) Christian Book of the Year in 2003 and 2004.

“We continue to be humbled by how God has used this book to touch more lives than we could have ever imagined,” said Doug Lockhart, president and CEO of Zondervan. “It's an honor to be part of what has really become a movement, not just a book, and we're grateful to the CBC for this award.”

CBC, held this week at the Doncaster Exhibition Centre in Doncaster, England, annually presents awards in 13 trade categories, including Book of the Year, Children's Book of the Year, Best Worship Album and Best Contemporary Album. Nominations for the awards are used to produce shortlists that are then judged by expert committees.

Three of the four titles nominated for the CBC 2005 Book of the Year Award were Zondervan titles, including God Is Closer Than You Think by John Ortberg and The Lost Message of Jesus by Steve Chalke and Alan Mann.
