The Catholic Press Association presented awards to winners of its 2006 Catholic Press Awards on Friday, May 26, at a ceremony in Nashville. Many evangelical publishers received awards in addition to Catholic and liturgical publishers. Awards were presented in 22 categories, honoring topics such as Spirituality, Theology and Liturgy; technical categories such as Catalog and Best Web Site; and other categories such as Popular Presentation of the Catholic Faith and First Time Author of a Book. Awards were given in first, second, third and honorable mention categories. Orbis Books won the most awards, with 17. Liturgical Press won 11, and Crossroad Publishing Company won nine. Christian-retail-market publisher Baker Publishing Group received three awards for its Brazos imprint. The Grand Rapids, Mich., publisher tied for third place in the Theology category for its Holy People, Holy Land by Michael Dauphinais and Matthew Levering, with Continuum International's The Future of Christology by Roger Haight. Brazos took two awards in the Reference Books category: second place for Dictionary for Theological Interpretation of the Bible by Kevin J. Vanhoozer, Craig G. Bartholomew, Daniel J. Treier and N.T. Wright; and honorable mention for the Acts volume of the “Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible” series, by Jaroslav Pelikan.

Eerdmans tied for second place in the Spirituality-Softcover category for To Follow You, Light of Life by Bruno Forte with Sorin Books' (Ave Maria Press) The Circle of Life by Joyce Rupp and Macrina Wiederkehr; and tied for second place in the Children's Books category for The Song of Francis and the Animals by Pat Mora with On That First Christmas Eve |
