Jesus Camp , a film about a summer camp for Christian youths, was nominated for an Academy Award this week for best documentary. The movie has generated interest and controversy with its look at the teachings and tenets of American Pentecostals. Jesus Camp features Becky Fischer, whose Kids on Fire camp in Devils Lake, N.D., was vandalized after the release of the movie last fall. A few parents pulled their children out of Fischer's ministry, and Fischer disconnected her phone after an onslaught of hate mail from the film, The Bismarck Tribune reported. The Jesus Camp DVD, released Tuesday by Magnolia Home Entertainment, the same day it was nominated for an Oscar, includes deleted scenes and director's commentary. The DVD is priced at $26.98.
The 79th annual Academy Awards is to be televised live by ABC on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. EST at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Calif.
