Six leading Bible publishers will kick off CBA Advance 2007 with a meeting focused on growing Bible sales in Christian stores. Set for Jan. 29, the collaborative advisory session will include representatives from B&H Publishing Group, Crossway Books, NavPress, Thomas Nelson, Tyndale House Publishers and Zondervan. “This meeting is our first step together as we closely examine the future of Bible selling in Christian stores,” said CBA Communications and Marketing Director Leon Wirth. “As the year unfolds, we'll expand the discussion with other industry members and will act collaboratively with the publishers on behalf of our retail members. “We'll assess the major issues Christian stores face in merchandising and selling Bibles, identify research and training needs, and respond in partnership to help Christian stores sell more Bibles that will transform more lives.” During a special Super Session at the International Christian Retail Show last summer, Nelson Bibles Senior Vice President and Publisher Wayne Hastings, who presented some of Nelson's Bible-sales research findings, said half those who went into a Christian store to buy a Bible left empty-handed because they were overwhelmed by the choices in front of them. Hastings revealed in his presentation that 61% of Bible purchasers bought them as gifts, and reported other findings that suggested retailers could boost Bible and other sales by better cross-merchandising.
CBA Advance 2007 is scheduled for Jan. 29-Feb. 2 in Indianapolis.
