Terry Jackson, general counsel and special assistant to CBA President Bill Anderson, died yesterday following an 18-month battle with cancer, according to the booksellers' trade association. Jackson was 54.

He recently celebrated more than 21 years with CBA as both an independent contractor and employee. Anderson described Jackson as a "living member benefit" to CBA's members.

"Terry had a profound impact on the boards, staff, corporate culture and strategic direction of CBA," Anderson said. " … He was a close associate and trusted adviser whose godly wisdom and wise counsel was pervasive and highly valued-in my personal life and throughout our organization. He is a friend who will be sorely missed. But our loss is most certainly heaven's gain."

Jackson is survived by his wife, Nancy, and son, Tim, along with his mother and five brothers and sisters. Memorial service details were still being finalized.
