Staff members of 20 Christian magazines from 13 countries recently traveled to Los Angeles to network with other evangelical publishers for the 53rd publishing conference of Magazine Training International (MTI), formerly Magazine Training Institute, according to organizers of the four-day event.

The Managing the Magazine: The Business of Magazine Publishing course offered training by NavPress Publisher Kent Wilson and Group Publishing Vice-President Tim Gilmour among others.

“The trainers were professional and brilliant communicators,” said Julie Belding, editor of DayStar magazine in New Zealand. “It was encouraging to meet people from around the world with the same passion and goals.”

Held May 29-June 1 on the campus of the University of Southern California, the conference was the first event organized in the U.S. by MTI, which plans to produce the training from the conference into an eight-DVD set with subtitles in Chinese, Russian and Spanish.
