Harden Young, CBA board chairman from 1982-1984, died July 22 in Boise, Idaho. He was 81. CBA President Bill Anderson said in a statement that he has "always appreciated Harden's great heart for Christ and his love for people, and his dedication to serving his fellow retailers all across the industry." After graduating in 1962 from the Multnomah School of the Bible Portland, Ore., with a theology degree, Young moved his family to Twin Falls, Idaho, where they served for six years as field missionaries with the American Sunday School Union in eastern Idaho and southwest Montana, according to The Idaho Statesman. During this time, Young and his wife, Maxine, started a small Christian bookstore in their garage. Young's family then moved to Boise in 1967 to operate Christian Supply Store. From 1976 through 1990, Young served on the CBA board, traveling overseas to help involve American publishers and booksellers with Overseas Literature Ministries. Upon retiring in 1995, Young sold his store to Family Christian Bookstores, the Statesman said. Young is survived by his wife, Maxine, two sons, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. |
