Sales of religious books in June jumped almost 20% to a total of $37.3 million, making an 8.2% increase for the year to date.

The strong category growth was revealed in the latest figures just released by the Association of American Publishers (AAP), which saw a month overall increase of 4.3% and yearly sales up 7.9%.

The Adult Hardcover category was up by 11.1 % for the month with sales of $106.9 million; year-to-date sales were up also up by 19.3%. Adult Paperback sales increased by just 0.3% for the month ($107.4 million) while sales were down slightly by 1.6% for the year.

Revenues in the Adult Mass Market category fell by 4.6% for June to $71.0 million, contributing toward a 2% decline percent year-to-date. Children's/Young Adult (YA) Hardcover sales saw an increase of 22.2% with a total of $42.3 million; sales year-to-date were up by 15.5%.

The AAP also revealed that Children's/YA Paperback sales increased 7.1% in June with sales totaling $38.4 million; sales were also up by 8.9% for the year. Audiobooks saw an increase of 25.9% for the month with sales totaling $12.9 million; sales for the whole year were up by 23.1%
