Former Christian retailer Alvin J. Regier, 91, died last month in Hobart, Ind.

A Bethel College professor of speech and German and a Mennonite pastor, Regier started in Christian retail as a part-time business associate at the Bible Book Center in South Bend, Ind., and then became manager of the Gary, Ind., branch of the Bible Book Center. Later he became the store's owner.

Regier was active for 50 years with CBA, including a term as treasurer and serving on the executive committee on the board of directors.

He is survived by five sons, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Regier and his wife, Viola, were married 61 years before she died in February 2002.
