Religious book sales decline in August Print Email

Sales of religious books decreased 10.8% for the month of August, according to the Association of American Publishers. The month's sales were $61.1 million, and the category's sales were down 7.7% for the year.

The Adult Hardcover category was up by 9.2% in August with sales of $100.9 million, while year-to-date sales decreased by 3.6%. Adult Paperback sales increased 1.8% for the month, posting $147.4 million in sales, and sales were up by 9.5% for the year.

The Children's/Young Adult Hardcover category saw a decrease of 9.3% for the month, with sales of $96.4 million, but its sales for year-to-date significantly dropped, by 35.5%. The Paperback category for the same age fared better, increasing 18.4% with sales totaling $69.4 million; annual sales were also up by 14.1%.

Audiobook sales decreased 6.9% in July, with sales totaling $11.9 million; sales for the year were down by 26.8%. However, E-book sales continued to rise in August, seeing an 82.9% increase for the month to $4.3 million and posting an increase of 52% for the year.
