Big Idea has announced the appointment of VeggieTales co-creator Mike Nawrocki to vice president of development. In the newly created position, Nawrocki will oversee all creative and production for the Franklin, Tenn.-based studio, including the "VeggieTales" and "3-2-1 Penguins!" series.

Nawrocki's initial focus will include developing an original new VeggieTales TV series, company officials said. Big Idea Interim General Manager Leslie Ferrell said "Nawrocki is an innovator in both values-based entertainment and CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) animation."

"He has been with Big Idea since the company's inception in 1993, and has made invaluable contributions to children's media," she said. "No one is better suited or more qualified than Mike for this important new leadership position."

The voice of numerous characters for VeggieTales, including Larry the Cucumber and LarryBoy, Nawrocki directed The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie, released at the weekend on DVD.
