A full program of retailer training has been unveiled for the Christian product industry's new winter event. More than 20 sessions will be available at The Gathering 2009, to be held at The Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Fla., Jan. 7-9. Sponsored by Christian Retailing magazine, the event is an outgrowth of the annual Gathering of Church Bookstores held since 2005, and will include additional elements for independent and inspirational gift retailers. Among the topics to be covered will be computerization and inventory control, best buying practices, online selling and ways to develop specific gift categories. The presentations will be made by a team of experienced bookstore managers. "It's going to be a great way for stores to start the new year," said Christian Retailing Publisher Dave Condiff. "We're addressing specific issues stores have told us they want to learn more about, and we are fortunate to have some of the best practitioners around sharing their experience." Beginning with a pray-for-the-industry period, in addition to the workshops, The Gathering will include times of inspiration and fellowship and an exhibition floor for church bookstores and independent retailers to discover new products and place orders.
