Thomas Nelson is launching Nelson Current, a non-fiction imprint that will address politics and other current issues. The first title for Nelson Current will be FOXNews legal correspondent Judge Andrew P. Napolitano's Constitutional Chaos: What Happens When the Government Breaks its Own Laws, which will release in November. Nelson Current replaces WND Books as a result of Thomas Nelson's decision to discontinue the co-publishing agreement with the Internet news site WorldNetDaily.com. According to Michael Hyatt, president and COO of Thomas Nelson, "We will transfer the commercial success experienced with WND Books to the new imprint, Nelson Current, and look for this division to contribute immensely to our corporate strategy of continuing expansion into the general market." David Bunham, Thomas Nelson's senior vice president and publisher for the general trade book group, calls reporting on current events a "natural fit within the Thomas Nelson family of imprints." "Having experienced success with this genre of books, including three New York Times best-selling titles, we know the potential for growth in both the ABA and CBA markets is phenomenal," he said. "The imprint's penetration into the political market is well-served by relationships that have been established by many of the other 12 publishing entities within the company. In addition, Nelson Current's ability to bridge both the ABA and CBA markets draws agents and authors." The full story about Nelson's new imprint will appear in the Dec. 13 issue of Christian Retailing.
