Seabourne Pictures, a film company founded by singer Michael W. Smith and his son, Ryan, along with Mark Cowart, has created a DVD series called "C2: Giving Movies a Second Look," which utilizes original short films and small group curriculum to get Christians to think critically about what they watch. The first two films, Love at First Sight and Relapse, are to release July 7 for $14.99 each and are being distributed through Randall House, STL Distribution North America and Spring Arbor. Each "C2" DVD includes a 20-minute film, downloadable study guides for small group discussion and bonus material, including a personal introduction from Michael W. Smith, behind-the-scenes movie features, outtakes, director's comments and deleted scenes. " 'C2' is an opportunity to encourage Christians to think critically about the arts, and movies specifically. I've found that Christians-both filmmakers and consumers-tend to be lazy when it comes to film," said Ryan Smith, who wrote, directed and co-produced Relapse. "A film may have a good message, but if it's poorly executed, then we're not doing our job as filmmakers, and the people who enjoy these films aren't doing their job as critical thinkers."
