During Tuesday's New Artist Luncheon at ICRS, several hundred retailers were given the chance to hear new music from up-and-coming artists Mandisa, Rush of Fools, Austins Bridge, Monk & Neagle, John Waller and Matt & Sherry McPherson. The artists were placed at various tables during the luncheon, allowing face-to-face interaction with retailers while sharing a meal together. American Idol contestant and new Sparrow Records artist Mandisa played host, offering observations and introductions for the acts. Gabriel Aviles, director of the Christian Music Trade Association (CMTA), was also on hand to speak to the crowd about the Sound Decisions collaborative report issued from CMTA and CBA and formulated by the Barna Research Group. Presented at the Future of the Industry Conference at CBA Advance earlier this year, the report aims to help Christian retailers understand their core music buyer and build overall business. The report is on sale during ICRS to CBA members for $75, half the usual member price. "Music is and continues to be a universal language," Aviles told the audience. "It's something that resonates with all of us in a way that nothing else can. Although we all face hurdles, both as suppliers and retailers, I think the message contained within our music is more needed now than ever." |
