Bob Siemon Designs (BSD) has signed a license for a jewelry line linked to the forthcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Details of the products will not be announced until January, but many of the items will be "more symbols and emblems that are repeated throughout the books" rather than specific to the Caspian story, said Marketing Manager Natalie Clark. BSD also will be bringing some of the line the company released in association with the 2005 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

"We are focusing on the impulse category," Clark said. "We found from the first movie that a lot of buyers and consumers are looking for lower-price items that stores a lot of times were using for promotions-somewhere in the $10-$12 range."

Clark encouraged Christian retailers to start thinking early about how they might connect with Prince Caspian, due out next May. Preview trailers for the movie are expected to begin screening in theaters from November.

BSD found from its involvement with the first film that "getting out in front of the movie release is really key for retailers," Clark said. "A movie is event-driven-the anticipation drives sales, and there oftentimes isn't a lot of residual effect. With book releases, everything comes after that, the reverse."

Clark suggested retailers consider alerting customers during the Christmas season that the new Narnia movie is coming, and follow up on any mailing lists that may have been created for the first film's release.
