Artistic founder Ellis Monk dies Print Email

Ellis E. Monk, a pioneer in the Christian products industry and founder of churchware company Artistic Manufacturing Corp., died Feb. 23. He was 83.

"He was a very remarkable man," said Sandie Larpenter, longtime office manager at Artistic and Monk's niece, who said that he came in to work every day even in his 80s. "Most everybody that knew him loved him. The workers at Artistic were very devoted to him and he to them. He always strived for quality and service, and we hope we can continue it. He will be missed."

Vonette Bright to receive 'Achievement' award Print Email

Speaker and author Vonette Bright has been named the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by Women in Christian Media (WCM), an organization of women working for Christian ministries and organizations on television, radio, publishing and the Internet.

Bright--wife for 55 years of Bill Bright, who died in 2003--is the author and co-author of several books, including the "Sister Circle" series written with Nancy Moser (Tyndale House Publishers); Devoted Wife, Liberated Widow (Sunny Publishers); The Woman Within (New Life Publications); and In His Hands--to be released by Regal Books later this year.

Christian video game companies merge Print Email

Inspired Media Entertainment, the inspirational video game company that makes games based on the "Left Behind" book series, has merged with Digital Praise, the maker of Guitar Praise--a Christian game similar to the popular Guitar Hero.

Troy Lyndon, CEO of Inspired Media Entertainment--formerly known as Left Behind Games--said the merger, announced earlier this week, has "four key ingredients that will take our company to the next level."

NRB convention kicks off this weekend Print Email

Author and radio commentator Chuck Colson is to be honored this weekend at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) annual convention, during an event with a strong publishing emphasis.

Colson, whose books include The Faith and Loving God (both Zondervan) as well as How Now Shall We Live? and Lies That Go Unchallenged in Popular Culture (both Tyndale House Publishers), will be presented with a Hall of Fame Award.

Movies with Christian values are moneymakers Print Email

Moviegoers prefer movies with Christian and biblical values, according to an annual study of box office and video sales figures among the major movies.

MovieGuide magazine's 2010 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry revealed that of the movies released in 2009 by the six major studios and the major independent studios, films with very strong Christian worldviews--such as The Blind Side and Disney's A Christmas Carol--averaged $75.7 million per movie at the box office in 2009. But movies with very strong non-Christian worldviews--such as BrĂ¼no--averaged only $26.9 million.

Enesco has entered into a licensing relationship with Big Idea to develop and distribute new products featuring VeggieTales characters. The products will be developed in multiple categories and channels utilizing Enesco brands, including its Gund plush division and Gregg Gift division.

"We are excited to reach consumers through Enesco's broad mix of retail channel, and to share the VeggieTales messages through new products that have proven appeal to children and families," said Leslie Ferrell, general manager of Big Idea.
