altSales of religious books decreased 9% in January, while all book categories rose 3.6% for the month, according to the Association of American Publishers.

The month's sales for religious books were $46.5 million. Sales of religious books previously decreased 9%, 25.6%, 11.8% and 10.8% last November, October, September and August, respectively.

‘Fireproof’ soundtrack to be released Print Email

In response to the popularity of the surprise hit Fireproof (Provident-Integrity Distribution), Fireproof Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released July 14.

Featuring songs from Third Day, Casting Crowns, 2, Leeland, Grey Holiday and Warren Barfield, the soundtrack will also include 10 songs from the score by Mark Willard as well as a bonus track of Waller's "While I'm Waiting/Fireproof Remix."

Dungy invited to join White House faith council Print Email

altRecently retired NFL coach Tony Dungy--author of the New York Times best-sellers Uncommon and Quiet Strength (both Tyndale House Publishers)--was invited earlier this week to join the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Tyndale House publicist Todd Starowitz said Dungy had not decided whether to accept. Dungy has been involved with many charities, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Prison Crusade Ministry, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and All Pro Dad.

Kingsbury novel in ECPA's top 10 Print Email

altKaren Kingsbury's new novel brings the only major change to an Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's (ECPA) best-sellers list still dominated by marriage-related titles for the Valentine's Day season. Kingsbury's Take One (Zondervan) debuted at No. 6 in the April list of top-selling books, just released.

Zondervan names publisher of Bibles Print Email

altZondervan has named Arthur "Chip" Brown senior vice president and publisher of Bibles. Brown most recently served as senior vice president of marketing for Atlanta-based Walk Thru the Bible ministries.

Moe Girkins, Zondervan's president and CEO, said Bibles were the "foundation" of the company and the selection for the position was "critical" for the company's future.

IBS-STL announces leadership changes Print Email

altKeith Danby, the global CEO of IBS-STL, has announced a series of leadership changes for the international publishing and distribution group's U.K. operations. Danby has established a six-strong senior management team for IBS-STL UK, where he resumed CEO responsibilities at the end of 2008 after troubles for the operation.

Detailing the changes in a letter to industry leaders, Danby said the economic challenges that had hit IBS-STL UK and other organizations had been compounded by difficulties with a new computer system, whose installation in October "did not go as smoothly as we would have liked and, indeed, caused problems for our suppliers and customers." Though some issues still had to be resolved, significant improvements had been made.

Religious book sales decreased in 2008 Print Email

altReligious books had a 7.6% drop in sales in 2008 compared to the previous 12 months, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

Despite the slump to $724 million in total revenues, religious books "still performed well" with a compound growth of 4.5% over the same time period-noted the report released earlier this week, which provides annual total book sales.

Christian retail stores’ revenue declines Print Email

altRevenues for Christian retail stores have fallen in recent weeks, according to leading consumer researcher Britt Beemer.

His America's Research Group (ARG) found just 5.8% of the population visited a Christian bookstore in a survey for its bimonthly Consumer Mind Reader report for March. That was slightly down on the figure for January, and compared to 7.6% for the same period last year.
