Drummer for Seattle-based band The Myriad, Randy Miller died Nov. 5 after battling chondrosarcoma—a form of bone cancer—since 2008. He was 39.

Tim Taber—president of Floodgate Records, The Myriad's label—said Miller was "a rare gem." "A totally humble man, but an amazing drummer and confident musician who owned his craft, he was a man who loved Jesus, his family and any chance he could get to play the drums," he added.

Switchfoot's Chad Butler said Miller was "an incredibly gifted individual." "I admired his strong commitment to his family and his passion for playing music he believed in," he added. "I feel blessed to have shared the stage with him, and to have called him a friend."

Miller founded and ran a construction company before joining The Myriad in 2006. The Myriad's albums include You Can't Trust a Ladder (Floodgate) and With Arrows, With Poise (Koch Records). Selected as MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout champions in 2007, the band is currently working on its new album, to be released in early 2011.

Miller is survived by his wife, Kristyn, and two children, Conner, 11, and Gillian, 9.
