Family Christian to build Haiti orphanage with Thanksgiving weekend sales Print Email

KarenKingsburyAndFamily-webThanksgiving weekend officially begins the Christmas shopping frenzy for millions of Americans, but Family Christian Stores is offering something more than just bargains. The non-profit retail chain will be donating 100% of its earnings from its customers’ purchases over the long weekend to build a neonatal orphanage in Haiti. In addition, Family Christian will match dollar-for-dollar all additional donations made during The Haiti Challenge. 

“Here in America, we have so much to be thankful for,” said No. 1 New York Times  best-selling author Karen Kingsbury, ambassador for The Haiti Challenge. “I can think of no better way to express gratitude than by providing for the needs of orphans.”

Study: Mobile alerts draw female shoppers to sales Print Email

snapetteWomen are more responsive to mobile alerts detailing discounts and more likely than men to shop in-store to save on shipping costs, according to recent data from fashion shopping app Snapette, a business unit of PriceGrabber. The survey revealed that mobile ad spending grew by 81% this year, with women aged 25-34 driving the highest click-through and conversation rates.

Shoppers of both genders are overwhelmingly visiting retail stores in response to viewing fashion products and promotions displayed on online platforms and mobile phones. Of those surveyed, 58% responded that seeing a product online has directly resulted in a visit to a fashion store. Additionally, 51% of shoppers reported that mobile phones play some part in their shopping experience.

Supreme Court to hear Hobby Lobby Obamacare case Print Email

HobbyLobbyThe U.S. Supreme Court today agreed to take up Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, a landmark case addressing the rights of business owners to operate their family companies without violating their deeply held religious convictions. 

The nation’s highest court accepted the federal government’s appeal of a June decision by the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals that a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate to provide potentially life-terminating contraceptive drugs and devices in employee insurance plans places a substantial burden on the religious freedoms of Hobby Lobby and sister company Mardel Christian & Education Stores, which are solely owned by founder David Green and his family.

Founder PJ Jonas and her husband, Jim Jonas, are parents to eight children, ages 6 to 16. The children are homeschooled, and each has his or her own age-appropriate role in the company, from milking goats to helping in the office. Considering their farming lifestyle, their company motto seems appropriate: “Work Hard. Get Dirty. Use Good Soap.”
