HeavenIsForRealHiRes-webThe movie based on the best-selling Heaven Is for Real (Thomas Nelson) is set to release on Easter Day 2014, and the first trailer for the much-anticipated film has been released.

Heaven is for Real, by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent, tells the true story of Burpo's son, then-4-year-old Colton Burpo, who experienced heaven during an emergency life-saving surgery. Colton is now 13, and his story will hit theaters nationwide on April 20.

Jars of Clay donates new single for Philippines relief efforts Print Email

JarsofClay-FallAsleepGRAMMY Award-winning band Jars of Clay is giving away “Fall Asleep,” a song from the Platinum-selling group’s new album, Inland (Gray Matters/Provident Distribution), through a NoiseTrade promotion to raise money for relief efforts in the Philippines. All of the proceeds from the single will be used to support the Red Cross in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, believed to be the strongest typhoon to make landfall in recorded history.

The official music video for “Fall Asleep,” which premiered on USAToday.com and is now being promoted in various video channels, was created in Manila, directed by Luis Tabuena and stars Filipina actress/supermodel Rhian Ramos.

HarperCollins sales drop, Women of Faith sale partly to blame Print Email

HarperCollinsPublishers-webHarperCollins reported a drop in sales for the fiscal quarter ending Sept. 30, though the publisher’s overall earnings increased.

Revenue decreased 7%, a $24 million drop, compared to the corresponding quarter in 2012, according to the quarterly report filed by parent company News Corp. The sales slump was “primarily due to softness in the Christian publishing marketplace.”

Christ_Centered_Life_Store_-_Fort_MyersChrist Centered Life Store is collaborating with Fort Myers (Fla.) Cash Mob to host a cash mob for the store Tuesday, Nov. 19. The cash mob is a fairly recent phenomenon, having grown from the desire to show support for small, independent businesses.

“Our goal is to bring the community together to support these great local businesses”, said Kathy Kalvan, co-founder of the Fort Myers Cash Mob.

B&H’s ‘Mayberry’ book continues to inspire annual Bible study conference Print Email

TheWayBackToMayberryJoey Fann started holding Bible studies themed around the classic 1960s sitcom The Andy Griffith Show in the late 1990s, and the effects are still being felt today.  Fann’s 2001 book The Way Back to Mayberry: Lessons From a Simpler Time (B&H Books) helped propagate the movement that has inspired hundreds of churches to launch their own Mayberry-themed Bible studies and even sparked its own annual conference.

This year’s sold-out Life Lessons from Mayberry: It’s All There in Black & White conference at LifeWay Christian Resources’ Ridgecrest (N.C.) Conference Center was attended by more than 500 people from 18 states. Attendance has doubled in the three years it has been held at Ridgecrest.

JimmyYeary-webThe Isaacs singer Jimmy Yeary won the Song of the Year award at the 47th Annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards presented at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 6. The award, shared with co-writers Jessi Alexander and Connie Harrington, was given for writing the No. 1 Country song “I Drive Your Truck,” performed by Lee Brice.

“The story behind this song is so powerful and connects with everyday people's lives and the losses we all endure,” Yeary said. “This song speaks to everyone.”
