Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) is likely to retool its Marketsquare International winter buying event for overseas accounts following a disappointing turnout in Atlanta, Jan. 18-20, for the show's fifth year.

A competing event and travel difficulties were among the factors contributing to the low attendance, with around 50 of the 74 who had registered arriving for the Sheraton Gateway Hotel program, which also saw fewer exhibitors than last year. The number of visitors was also down for the Inspirational Value Book Show (IVBS), being held in conjunction with Marketsquare for the second time.

Lysa TerKeurst’s “Made to Crave” titles are going strong on the weekly Top 20 General best-sellers list from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) tracking sales for the week ending Jan. 14, according to Pubtrack Christian data. TerKeurst aims to empower women spiritually so they can be healthy physically in Made to Crave, at No. 3 on the list, and its companion devotional, at No. 8.

Faith-based film companies pursue overseas opportunities Print Email

Two veterans of the faith-based film world have been at Christian Trade Association International’s Marketsquare International in Atlanta this week to explore overseas opportunities for Christian movies.

“There’s a demand for them,” said Byron Jones, who has recently joined Bridgestone Multimedia Group (BMG) as sales director. The company’s catalog of 170-plus titles includes Billy: The Early Years of Billy Graham, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry and the classic television series Davey and Goliath.

A book of life-after-death testimonies is seeing a second life of its own following the success of last year’s unexpected best-seller, Heaven Is for Real.

The Thomas Nelson title telling of young Colton Burpo’s account of visiting heaven—which has sold more than 6 million copies since its November 2010 release—has prompted interest in Faye Aldridge’s Real Messages From Heaven.

VaShawn Mitchell was the most awarded artist topping six categories at the 27th Annual Stellar Awards, with Kirk Franklin close behind with four awards. Celebrating gospel music at its best, the Stellar Awards were presented Jan. 14 at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

'Trust factor can help stores sell e-books' Print Email

Veteran Christian retailer Chuck Wallington urged other stores to “get in the e-book game” at CBA’s Next 2012 conference in Atlanta.

As one of the first in the industry to begin selling digital books at his Christian Supply in Spartanburg, S.C., late in 2011, Wallington told those in a session on e-books how customers had welcomed the move and warned attendees: “If you are not planning to get into the game, I think it’s pretty bleak news.”
