Following the government's economic initiatives, Divinity Boutique is offering its own "Stimulus Package Giveaway," which has a $100,000 retail value.

In an effort to help stores that are struggling as well as retailers who have supported its product line, the Ohio-based inspirational gift company is planning to give away $100,000 worth of greeting cards--while supplies last--to independent Christian stores.

‘The Touch’ film to be spotlighted at ICRS Print Email

Kingstone Media Group (KMG) is hoping to make a big splash with retailers with its new comics, novels, graphic novels and film during the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS), to be held July 12-15 in Denver.

KMG founder and Chairman Art Ayris said his Leesburg, Fla.-based company "had a very small showing" at last year's show, but will spotlight the film The Touch on DVD in booth No. 1954 of the Colorado Convention Center. Ayris--who serves as executive pastor of First Baptist Leesburg--said the movie is based on a true story of Hannah, whose journey takes her through divorce, abuse, rape, jail and homelessness.

Dates set for Marketsquare Asia, Korean rights fair Print Email

ChristianTrade Association International's (CTAI) Marketsquare Asia 2009 is to be held Sept. 6-8 at the Cityview Hotel, formerly the YMCA International House, in Hong Kong. The Korea Christian Rights Fair will be held Sept. 10-11 in Seoul, Korea--the largest rights market in Asia.

Delegates from more than 15 countries are expected to attend Marketsquare, including a number of mainland Chinese publishers who will again be sponsored by CTAI. The largest Christian trade gathering in Asia, Marketsquare will feature an exhibit floor as well as bookseller and publisher/distributor workshops to be taught by former NavPress Publisher Kent Wilson and CTAI Training Director Jack Scott.

The Climb (World Wide Pictures/Wesscott Marketing) remained atop the SoundScan Christian Videos list for sales the week ending June 28, while Toby Mac's Portable Sounds (ForeFront Records/EMI CMG Distribution) stayed in the top spot of the Christian/Gospel music Christian retail chart.

Publishers embrace environmental concerns Print Email

As Christian publishers put more focus on "going green," they have been encouraged in their efforts by two unlikely sources--Wal-Mart and Harry Potter.

The retail giant's insistence that publishers use paper made from trees harvested in "sustainable forests"--younger-growth forests where trees are responsibly harvested and replaced--has helped get publishers' attention, according to Dwight Baker.

Many Christian retailers and suppliers believe that closer cooperation would benefit the industry.

They see advantages if more independents were to join forces; if data collection and reporting were consolidated; and if best-seller lists were combined.
