Recently retired NFL coach Tony Dungy--author of the New York Times best-sellers Uncommon and Quiet Strength (both Tyndale House Publishers)--was invited earlier this week to join the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, according to U.S. News & World Report. Tyndale House publicist Todd Starowitz said Dungy had not decided whether to accept. Dungy has been involved with many charities, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Prison Crusade Ministry, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and All Pro Dad. Composed of religious and secular leaders as well as scholars from different backgrounds, the advisory council features some members who have authored Christian books, including Frank Page, Southern Baptist Convention president and author of The Incredible Shrinking Church (B&H Books/B&H Publishing Group); Jim Wallis, president and executive director of Sojourners and author of God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It (HarperOne); and Joel Hunter, senior pastor of Northland, a Church Distributed in Longwood, Fla., and author of A New Kind of Conservative by Joel Hunter (Regal Books). |
