Pastor and author of The Purpose-Driven Life (PDL) Rick Warren was named one of “15 People Who Make America Great” in the July 3-10 issue of Newsweek. The magazine's “Giving Back Awards” article calls Saddleback Church's Warren “The Innovator,” in a list that also includes Brad Pitt and CNN's Soledad O'Brien.

In the article, Newsweek points to Warren's “reverse tithe” from PDL's 30 million copies sold in English and his mobilization of people to give relief following the tsunami of 2004.
